In Las Vegas, we often encounter red paper wasps, which can look quite intimidating with their large, pointy bodies.
Despite their seemingly harmless name, paper wasps are far from gentle, and it's crucial to exercise caution around them.
If you discover a paper wasp nest on your property, avoid approaching it and contact an expert to handle the situation. While we specialize in no-kill honey bee removals, wasp removal is better left to exterminators.
However, we cannot stress enough the importance of dealing with wasps swiftly and safely, as they can pose a genuine threat.
Wasps are known for their aggressive behavior, and their stings can be extremely painful and even dangerous.
Their small nests and numbers can be deceiving, as unlike honey bees, wasps can sting multiple times and tend to be hostile toward humans.
In the case of a wasp nest discovery, including yellow jackets, it's essential to leave the area immediately and contact a professional.
Avoid any actions that might make the wasps perceive you as a threat due to your proximity to their nest.
Prompt and efficient bee and wasp control is crucial for ensuring the safety of you and your family. Reach out to professionals as soon as you detect a nest or hive, and let them handle the removal process to protect your well-being.

During the colder months, providing bees with sugar water and pollen supplement becomes essential. In the freezing winter of 2022-2023, for instance, our Joshua Tree Preserve even welcomed a kit fox named Vikki, who came down from the mountains to find warmth.
With no blooms during the dead of winter, sugar water and pollen supplement serves as a vital treat for the bees, keeping them nourished and healthy. Bees remain relatively inactive during this time, huddling together in the hive to conserve warmth. Venturing out in extreme cold can be fatal for them.
At our Joshua Tree Preserve, we ensure the bees are well-fed and cared for during these challenging winter months. As spring arrives, the bees regain access to their favorite food sources, such as pollen, nectar, honey, and an array of flowers.
They particularly enjoy desert wildflowers, rosemary blooms, lavender, and chaste trees. In the warmer months, bees also require plenty of water to thrive.
Vikki the fox's presence at the preserve during winter made the season even more memorable. She was the sweetest fox and became a part of our story, a testament to the caring environment we create for all creatures.
When it warmed up, Vikki returned to her home in the mountains, but she left a lasting impression on us.
The bees have it good in Las Vegas and Henderson. It's warm, and all the plants have been blooming for months.
However, December through February are the rough months for the bees out here.
