Discover the Buzz at Sahara Library: Our Beekeeper Corner Public Display

At Vegas Bees, our passion for beekeeping and education go hand-in-hand. We believe that the world of bees is not only fascinating but essential to the health of our ecosystem.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our special exhibit, "Bee Keeper Corner," now on display at the Sahara Library in Las Vegas!

This unique educational exhibit offers visitors an up-close look into the world of beekeeping, honey production, and the critical role bees play in our environment.

The Importance of Beekeeping and Why We’re Involved

Bee populations around the world have been facing severe declines due to pesticides, climate change, habitat loss, and disease. As professional beekeepers, we’ve seen firsthand the importance of protecting these crucial pollinators.

Through our work at Vegas Bees, we specialize in live bee removal and relocation, and we’re committed to spreading awareness about how everyone can do their part in protecting the bees.

That’s why our exhibit at Sahara Library is so important to us. It's not just about showcasing the tools and techniques used in beekeeping; it's about sharing the story of bees and how we can all contribute to their survival. The exhibit is designed to be informative, interactive, and fun for visitors of all ages.

What You’ll See at Bee Keeper Corner

When you step into the Sahara Library, one of the first things you'll notice is the eye-catching display marked by a hand-painted sign that reads “Bee Keeper Corner.” The exhibit itself is set within a large glass display case, where you’ll find an assortment of beekeeping tools, honey jars, and protective gear, all offering a glimpse into the life of a beekeeper.

At the center of the display are two mannequins dressed in full beekeeping suits, providing a real-life look at the protective clothing we wear during bee removals and while working with our hives.

For those unfamiliar with beekeeping, the suits are designed to prevent bee stings, which allows us to handle bees safely and without causing them harm.

These suits, along with gloves, hats, and veils, are essential tools for anyone working with bees, and they’re just one of the many elements of our exhibit.

The display also features a variety of beekeeping equipment, including smokers, honeycomb frames, and a beekeeper's hive tool.

One of the focal points of the exhibit is the smoker, a tool that plays an important role in calming bees when we need to open their hives. Smokers work by releasing cool smoke, which masks the bees' pheromones and helps reduce their natural defense mechanisms. For those curious about how we manage to handle bees and swarms without getting stung, the smoker is one of our key tools.

Visitors will also get a close-up view of honey jars and honeycomb samples. Honey is, of course, one of the most well-known products of beekeeping, but our exhibit goes deeper into the process.

We’ve included educational information about how bees produce honey, from foraging for nectar to the intricate process of converting it into honey within the hive. This is one of the highlights for many visitors, especially when they learn just how much work goes into producing even a single jar of honey—a bee must visit over two million flowers to produce just one pound of honey!

A Special Focus on Bee Removal and Relocation

One of the unique aspects of Vegas Bees is our focus on live bee removal and relocation. Our goal is to safely remove bees from urban areas and relocate them to apiaries where they can thrive.

At the exhibit, we’ve included information on our bee removal process, with a special section dedicated to how we handle swarms and remove bees from difficult locations—whether it’s a backyard tree, a rooftop, or even inside the walls of a home.

A particularly fascinating part of the exhibit is the “Sleeping Bees” section, which explains how we ensure that bees remain calm and safe during relocation. It’s an opportunity to learn more about the gentle, non-toxic methods we use to transport bees to new homes without causing harm to them or the surrounding environment.

We hope this section of the exhibit will help dispel some of the fear and misunderstanding around bee swarms and removals, showing that bees are not a threat but rather a vital part of our world that deserve protection.

Interactive Learning for All Ages

We designed the exhibit to be engaging and accessible to visitors of all ages. Whether you’re a seasoned beekeeper, an avid gardener, or just someone curious about bees, there’s something for everyone.

For younger visitors, we’ve included fun and interactive elements, like a hive setup and even a child-sized beekeeper’s outfit. The goal is to inspire a new generation to appreciate bees and perhaps even get involved in beekeeping themselves.

Alongside the physical displays, the exhibit offers a wealth of educational materials, including fact sheets that cover everything from the life cycle of a bee to tips on how to create a bee-friendly garden.

We’ve also shared some of our personal stories from the field, detailing some of the more memorable bee removals we’ve done over the years.

Our Commitment to Bee Conservation

As professional beekeepers, we’ve dedicated our lives to the preservation and protection of bees. Through our exhibit at the Sahara Library, we want to extend that commitment to the broader community.

We believe that education is the key to conservation, and we hope that everyone who visits the exhibit walks away with a greater understanding of just how important bees are to our ecosystem.

We’re particularly proud of the way this exhibit highlights our focus on humane, non-toxic bee removal methods. We don’t believe in exterminating bees. Instead, we work to relocate them to sustainable bee farms, where they can continue to thrive and contribute to pollination efforts.

In addition, our exhibit explains how local residents can help protect bees by planting pollinator-friendly flowers and reducing pesticide use in their gardens.
